High Tip Buckets for Construction Applications

High Tip Buckets are a specialist attachment designed to meet the height and material-handling challenges commonly found in construction environments. These buckets feature an extended tipping mechanism that allows for significantly higher discharge height than standard GP buckets, without increasing machine size or compromising stability.

In construction environments, machines often need to load bulky materials such as sand, gravel, aggregates and soil into hoppers, tall sided lorries or for simply heaping to optimise space. Traditional GP buckets can fall short in these settings, requiring the use of ramps or additional lifting machinery. High Tip Buckets eliminate that need, offering a more efficient and safer method of discharge.

Technical Benefits of High Tip Buckets in Construction Environments

Increased Dump Height: The core advantage of a high tip bucket is the ability to reach higher discharge points. This is particularly beneficial when loading or heaping materials

Optimised for Low-Density Material: High tip buckets typically have greater volumetric capacity, making them ideal for handling lighter, high-volume materials like grains.

Improved Site Efficiency: By removing the need for ramps or double-handling, high tip buckets streamline the workflow, reduce fuel consumption, and allow faster vehicle turnaround times.

Hydraulic Tipping Mechanism: The integrated hydraulic tipping frame enables precise, stable control of bucket movement, ensuring clean discharges with minimal spillage. This is crucial in busy high volume construction areas.

Enhanced Safety: The design minimises the need to operate on inclines or unstable surfaces, which are common hazards when using GP buckets to reach higher loads. This reduces machine stress and improves operator safety.

Custom Build Options: High tip buckets can be tailored to the specific material densities, machine sizes, and discharge heights required by the specific construction operation, this helps in improving overall performance and lifecycle value.

Wheel Loader Attachments Bulk Materials

Here’s a breakdown of the main materials handled in the construction sector by a wheel loader equipped with each of the four main attachments,  high tip bucket, general-purpose (GP) bucket, pusher blade, and forks.

1. High Tip Bucket

Purpose: Designed for light, bulky materials and to reach over high-sided trucks or hoppers.

Common materials handled:

  • Sand, fine gravel, and lightweight aggregates.
  • Soil, topsoil, and screened fill.
  • Compost, mulch, and green waste.
  • Coal and other light minerals.
  • Grain and agricultural produce (in construction-related agricultural works).
  • Recycled light materials (e.g., shredded wood, plastics, paper).

2. General-Purpose (GP) Bucket

Purpose: The standard loader bucket for a wide range of medium-density to heavy materials.

Common materials handled:

  • Crushed stone and heavy aggregates.
  • Coarse gravel and ballast.
  • Wet or compacted soil.
  • Hardcore and demolition debris.
  • Asphalt millings.
  • Quarry run material.
  • Bulk construction waste (non-lightweight).

3. Pusher Blade

Purpose: A wide, durable blade for pushing, levelling, and stockpile management rather than lifting.

Common materials handled:

  • Sand and loose aggregates (for levelling).
  • Soil and topsoil in site grading.
  • Snow in large open areas.
  • Silage, woodchips, or biomass stockpiles.
  • Construction debris that needs to be corralled before loading.
  • Dust suppression piles in quarry or recycling yards.

4. Forks (Pallet or Log Forks)

Purpose: For lifting and transporting palletised or long/bulky items rather than loose material.

Common materials handled:

  • Palletised building materials (bricks, blocks, bagged cement).
  • Timber packs, scaffold poles, or steel beams.
  • Precast concrete components.
  • Large crates or equipment.
  • Pipe bundles (PVC, steel, or concrete).
  • Waste skips or cages designed for fork handling
