A high tip grain bucket is a type of loading shovel attachment that is designed to efficiently and effectively handle a range of different types of materials, including grain. We are a highly respected and extremely experienced expert that supplies a range of high tip grain buckets, as we discuss in the following post. Please continue reading for more information.
B. A. Caulkett – Who Are We?
Based in Suffolk, in the East of England, we design and manufacture a range of loading shovel attachments, including high tip grain buckets.
Additionally, we also supply waste buckets, clam buckets, general purpose buckets and sugar beat buckets.
We own a purpose built manufacturing facility where we use cutting edge equipment, including CNC press brakes, guillotines and plasma cutters. Our engineers are coded to BS4872 and employ all industry best practices.
All of our products are designed to meet the specific requirements of an individual customer and made from only the highest quality materials. This is a factor that ensures our customers receive a purpose built product that is able to offer many years of reliable service.

Can a High Tip Grain Bucket Help Me to Improve Efficiency?
High tip buckets are designed with efficiency in mind.
As the name suggests, a high tip bucket facilitates extra tipping height, compared to standard counterparts. As such, the buckets can be used in conjunction with high sided vehicles like walking floor trailers and hoppers.
This is a factor that can help to improve efficiency and productivity. Ultimately, a high quality high tip grain bucket can help a company to improve its performance and overall profitability.
Grain Bucket Specifications
The B. A. Caulkett range of High Tip Grain Buckets have been expertly designed and manufactured in Suffolk for over 40 years. They represent an important part of the loading shovel attachment range. These buckets are part of the high performing High Tip Bucket range that sets BAC apart from other lower performing buckets.
With outstanding quality and a range of outstanding features make the B. A. Caulkett High Tip Grain Buckets the market leading grain bucket for specification, performance and construction quality.
The B. A. Caulkett high tip grain bucket range is able to achieve the maximum crowd and dump angles available with brackets designed specifically for the machine and mounting required.
Design features can include integrated spill guards to minimise grain spilling over the back as the loading boom is lifted and grounded. Optional bolt on toe plates in nylon or steel are a popular design extra. Nylon toe plates are perfect for use on wooden floors. Wear strips provided on the grain bucket underside which provide additional durability.
Double acting hydraulic cylinders activate the bucket and allow the bucket to completely tip at a very high level. Not only can the Hi-Tip Bucket gain more than a 2metre extra discharge height, it also provides additional extra forward reach. This is extremely beneficial when loading high-sided vehicles.
Suitable for use on front loaders, loading shovels and telehandlers where the wide range of grain bucket sizes cover all farm grain handling needs. B. A. Caulkett buckets are designed to handle the rigorous demands required from grain handling.

A quality manufacturer should explain how different material densities affect the achievable payload without exceeding the loader’s safe lifting limits.
Key Technical Considerations
- Rated struck capacity vs heaped capacity
- Material density (typically 0.55–0.85 t/m³ depending on crop)
- Centre of gravity at maximum fill
- Loader safe operating load
- Moisture content of grain
- Performance with wheat, barley, oats, maize, rape seed and pellets
Why does it matter?
Ensures the bucket delivers the expected payload without exceeding safe machine limits.
It is essential that the quoted bucket capacity reflects real working conditions rather than optimistic theoretical figures.
Provides accurate payload performance while maintaining safe operating limits.
The bucket should be engineered specifically around the customer’s machine rather than being a one-size-fits-all design.
Key Technical Considerations
- Loader operating weight
- Rated operating load
- Breakout force
- Maximum hinge pin height
- Dump reach
- Hydraulic pressure requirements
- Hydraulic flow requirements
- Tipping angle throughout the lift cycle
- Attachment weight
Why does it matter?
A high tip bucket that is too large or incorrectly matched may reduce tipping performance or overload the machine.
Guarantees the attachment performs correctly with the customer’s specific loader or telehandler.
An optimised design should deliver a clean emptying cycle with minimal residue, even when handling damp grain or feed products.
Key Technical Considerations
- Bucket floor angle
- Internal side wall geometry
- Tip angle
- Pivot position
- Ram stroke
- Bucket centre of gravity during tipping
- Smooth internal surfaces
- Anti-bridging design
- Controlled discharge speed
Why does it matter?
Poor bucket geometry can cause material to hang up inside the bucket, slowing loading cycles and reducing productivity.
Reduces loading cycle times, eliminates product carry-back and improves overall efficiency.
A premium bucket should maximise payload while maintaining structural durability over many years of intensive use.
Key Technical Considerations
- High tensile steel specification
- Structural finite element analysis (FEA)
- Pivot reinforcement
- Ram mounting design
- Torsional stiffness
- Box-section chassis
- Fully welded stress points
- Wear-resistant pivot bushes
- Replaceable pins
- Fatigue life considerations
Why does it matter?
High tip buckets experience significant stresses around the pivot system and chassis during thousands of tipping cycles.
Maximises service life while keeping attachment weight low enough to increase payload.
Well-designed hydraulic systems improve reliability while making routine maintenance quicker and more cost-effective.
Key Technical Considerations
- Double-acting hydraulic cylinders
- Operating pressure
- Cylinder bore and rod diameter
- Hose routing protection
- Cross-over relief valve options
- Greasable pivot points
- Replaceable bushes
- Hard chrome cylinder rods
- Easily accessible service points
- Seal protection
- Corrosion-resistant finishes
Why does it matter?
Hydraulic failures or excessive wear can quickly lead to costly downtime during harvest or peak loading periods.
Minimises downtime, extends component life and reduces whole-life ownership costs.
